Sher Afzal Marwat, the lawyer of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan, found himself in legal trouble following a physical altercation with a police constable.
The incident came to light on Thursday when a video showcased a heated scuffle between Marwat and a police constable in the Supreme Court’s parking area. The fallout was swift, with a case promptly registered against the lawyer at the Secretariat police station in the federal capital. Constable Javed Humayun, the complainant, detailed in his FIR that Marwat not only assaulted and threatened him severely during their confrontation. The situation nearly turned fatal when Marwat allegedly attempted to run his vehicle over the constable.
Not Marwat’s First Controversial Encounter
This event isn’t an isolated incident for Sher Afzal Marwat, who has a history of finding himself amidst contentious situations. He previously made headlines for a public brawl with PML-N Senator Dr. Afnan Ullah Khan during a television show. What began as a heated argument spiralled out of control, culminating in an exchange of abusive language and a physical attack launched by Marwat. Following that altercation, an FIR was lodged against him at Aabpara Police Station, citing violations under Section 352 (Punishment for assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation) and Section 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
These repeated incidents involving Marwat raise serious concerns about conduct unbecoming of a legal professional, especially one linked to high-profile political figures, and add a layer of complexity to the public’s perception of the legal fraternity’s role in upholding ethical standards.
