An Islamabad Police party with armored vehicles with the support of Punjab police arrived at the residence of Imran Khan, chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to arrest.
PTI’s official Twitter account, supporters and party members were urged to gather outside the residence and “remain peaceful.”
As the police charged the crowds with batons, however, PTI employees reportedly began to stone police officers, transforming Zaman Park into a battleground. According to reports, some PTI employees were detained due to police using water cannons to subdue them.
According to Express News, police have blocked all roads leading to Zaman Park and are joined by a large contingent of Lahore Police in front of Imran Khan’s residence.
Director Inspector General of Operations for the Islamabad Police, Shahzad Nadeem Bukhari, has arrived to ensure the arrest warrant is carried out. A police team and an armored vehicle accompany him.
Two police officers displayed placards bearing a notice about receiving notices to receive arrest warrants.
When asked what the allegations against Imran were, DIG Operations Bukhari declined to respond, stating that he was carrying out the warrant. He also stated that the media would be informed of Imran’s arrest location.
The leader of the PTI, Farrukh Habib and Hammad Azhar, urged the party workers to arrive at Zaman Park., Farrukh Habib also posted a Zaman Park video claiming that Imran’s “life was in danger.” He also stated that conditions are being created for the former prime minister to be attacked again.
