Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister Imran Khan had filed a defamation case against Geo TV, its anchor Shahzeb Khanzada, and businessman Umar Farooq Zahoor in UAE for making accusations about Toshakhana gifts.
The former prime minister used Twitter to say that he had told lawyers in the UK, including Leading Counsel, to start legal action against Geo News based on the Pre Action-Protocol for Media & Communications Claims.
Imran Khan wrote on Twitter, “A formal letter of claim was sent to Geo TV Limited in London today, and they have 14 days to respond.”
On Twitter, the head of the PTI said that his lawyers in the UAE, led by Hassan Shad, had taken Geo TV, Shahzeb Khanzada, and Umer Farooq Zahoor to court for libel and slander, which is a crime under UAE law.
Imran Khan’s latest move came almost a month after Zahoor said on the Geo News show Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath that the PTI government had sold a pricey Graff watch that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman had given to Imran Khan for $2 million.
On December 5, the former prime minister said that he had started getting ready to sue Geo News in the UK for saying that he sold an expensive wristwatch that he bought from Toshakhana.
