Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), instructed party members to resign from all standing committees of the National Assembly announced by his sister, Aleema Khan, outside Adiala Jail.
Khan has issued the directive amid tensions surrounding the by-elections and ongoing legal battles, highlighting PTI’s defiance against Pakistan’s political establishment.
Aleema Khan spoke to journalists after her meeting with Imran Khan, where she revealed that he has ordered PTI members to resign from parliamentary committees. He cited that participating in by-elections would legitimise disputed polls.

The decision follows a rift with PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, whose resignation Khan rejected due to disagreements with Aleema regarding the by-elections. Notably, 13 out of the 22 members of the political committee supported Khan’s decision. Additionally, Khan endorsed Mahmood Khan Achakzai for the National Assembly.
Khan expressed concern over the detention of his wife, Bushra Bibi, and the arrests of PTI workers Shershah and Shahrez, who are linked to the riots on May 9, 2023. Evidence, including video footage, has been cited in the FIRs. He criticised PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for “destroying cricket” and lamented the devastation caused by floods in Buner, where there have been 700 reported deaths in 2025, according to PICSS data. Additionally, Aleema mentioned Khan’s eye health issue and announced plans for a court petition to seek treatment from doctors at PIMS.
