The former Pakistani cricket legend, ex-national team captain, and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan, praised the current captain, Babar Azam.
Imran has called Babar an “extraordinary batsman,” He recently spoke about his admiration for Babar’s talents in detail on a local television show.
Imran highlighted Babar’s exceptional abilities, stating that it had been a long since he had seen a player of Babar’s caliber. As a former bowler, Imran evaluates batters from a unique perspective, and he was particularly impressed with Babar’s technique, talent, and character. He emphasized that it’s a rare combination to find all three qualities in one player, and Babar has the potential to surpass everyone in the cricket world.
In November 2016, Imran Khan shared that he had suggested to the then-Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Ehsan Mani, that Babar should be the national team’s captain. Babar replaced Sarfaraz Ahmed in October 2019, taking on the role of captain.
Imran Khan also talked about cricket’s challenges during his tenure as prime minister during an interview on Piers Morgan’s ‘TalkTV’ show. He mentioned that he had only seen Babar play a couple of times, but he was confident enough in Babar’s abilities to recommend him as the national team captain. Imran believes that Babar’s world-class skills, adaptability, proper technique, stroke play, and temperament make him an ideal leader for the team, as such qualities naturally command respect.
Overall, Imran Khan sees great potential in Babar Azam as an extraordinary batsman and a respected and effective captain for the Pakistan national cricket team.
During an interview on Piers Morgan’s ‘TalkTV’ show, Imran mentioned that cricket faced challenges during his time as prime minister.
“I’ve only watched him [Babar] play a couple of times, but I’ve already recommended to the cricket board’s chairman that he should be made captain because he is truly world-class. I’ve never encountered a player with such adaptability, proper technique, stroke play, and temperament; he could excel from now on. So it makes perfect sense to have Babar as captain since a world-class leader garners respect,” he concluded.
