The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced the party’s Secretary General, Omar Ayub Khan, as the nominee for the position of Prime Minister.
Asad Qaiser, the former Speaker of the National Assembly, confirmed Omar Ayub Khan’s nomination for the Prime Ministerial position on behalf of Imran Khan during a media briefing outside Adiala Jail after visiting the incarcerated founder of PTI.
A day earlier, PTI announced the nomination of Ali Amin Gandapur as the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In response to inquiries about political alliances for establishing a government at the centre, Qaiser disclosed that the PTI founder had commissioned him to engage with various political entities, including JUI-F, ANP, and Aftab Sherpao.
The former Speaker of the House criticized the February 8 elections as manipulated, alleging they were conducted to subvert the public mandate awarded to PTI.
Omar Ayub Khan, who ran as an independent yet received PTI’s backing, triumphed in the National Assembly constituency NA-18, Haripur, amassing 192,948 votes. The unofficial results released by the Returning Officer/ECP indicated his closest competitor, Pakistan Muslim League (N)’s Babar Nawaz Khan, garnered 112,389 votes, with the voter turnout recorded at 49.88%.
