Imran Khan lambasts ‘institutions’ amid an arrest scandal

Imran Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), lambasted “state institutions” on Sunday amidst the arrest scandal in the Toshakhana case lodged against him.

Imran Khan unleashed his wrath while addressing party members and supporters who participated in the “Jail Bharo Tehreek” at his Zaman Park in Lahore.

Senator Shibli Faraz, Khan’s chief of staff, said the PTI leader was not at his Zaman Park when the Islamabad Police came to arrest him.

In his heated statement, the PTI chairman declared that neither he nor the nation had ever bowed before any institution or person.

Khan appeared amid a swarm of PTI workers assembled at Zaman Park after the Islamabad police arrived at his Lahore home to arrest him for the Toshakhana case.

On February 28, additional sessions judge Zafar Iqbal of an Islamabad court issued an arrest warrant for the former prime minister for failing to appear in court in the Toshakhana case.

Khan stated in his fiery address that he has no intention of leaving the country, regardless of whether his name is on the government’s exit control list (ECL).

In a jab at the leadership of the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) coalition, he stated that their legs shake if their “names are placed on the no-fly list.”

Critically criticizing the former army chief, Khan claimed that Gen. (ret.) Qamar Javed Bajwa conspired to impose a group of criminals on the country.

The former prime minister told his party members and supporters that there was no security concern, adding that “they” intended to “remove” (assassinate) him from the route.

The former prime minister asserted he was dragged through the courts on bogus charges.

Lawyer Babar Awan, a key leader of the PTI, asserted on March 3 that there was sufficient proof that foreign agents were plotting another murder attempt against the PTI chairman.

In November of last year, during the PTI long march in Wazirabad, Gujranwala district, a shooter opened fire on the former prime minister, wounding his legs. He said, “Islamabad’s attorneys consider the Kachehri (Judicial Complex) a death trap.”

Khan asserted that his life was in danger and requested that he be permitted to attend the Toshakhana court hearing via video link.

Khan insisted that his attorneys submit a letter to Pakistan’s Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
