The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) condemned PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s “irresponsible and baseless allegations” against a senior military officer without evidence, calling them “extremely unfortunate, deplorable, and unacceptable.”
The PTI chairman claimed at a rally on Saturday that a senior intelligence official was planning his assassination. Imran Khan insisted he faced verifiable threats to his life and had already survived one assassination attempt.
This is not the first time the former premier has made such accusations. Following an assassination attempt last year, Imran Khan held Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and a senior intelligence official responsible, demanding their resignations.
The ISPR’s statement criticized the PTI chairman’s allegations against a senior military officer as “fabricated and malicious.” The media wing highlighted a pattern over the past year of military and intelligence agency officials being targeted with insinuations and sensational propaganda to achieve political objectives.
The ISPR urged the political leaders to use legal channels and stop making false allegations, warning that it reserved the right to take legal action against clearly false and malicious statements and propaganda.
Yesterday, PM Shehbaz criticized Imran Khan for routinely maligning and threatening the Pakistan Army and Intelligence Agency for political gain. He condemned Imran Khan’s allegations against Gen Faisal Naseer and Intelligence Agency officers as intolerable.
Imran Khan responded to PM Shehbaz on Twitter, questioning why he was denied his legal and constitutional right to register an FIR as a Pakistani citizen. The PTI chief also questioned the ISI’s involvement in the Islamabad Judicial Complex incident on March 18, during which he appeared in court for the Toshakhana case hearing.
Imran Khan concluded by saying it was time for Pakistan to officially declare that only the law of the jungle, where might is right, exists in the country.
