Doctors at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) have confirmed that former prime minister Imran Khan received medical treatment for a right eye condition after he reported reduced vision.
In a video message released late Friday, PIMS Executive Director Dr Rana Imran Sikandar said senior doctors examined Khan and later discharged him. He explained that increased pressure in blood vessels affected the former premier’s right eye and temporarily impaired his eyesight.
Khan first complained of reduced vision while in custody at Adiala Jail. A senior doctor examined him at the jail and advised further evaluation at PIMS.

At the hospital, doctors carried out multiple tests, including a slit-lamp examination, fundoscopy, intraocular pressure measurement, and an optical coherence tomography (OCT) scan. Based on these results, specialists diagnosed central retinal vein occlusion, a condition that restricts blood flow in the retina.
On medical advice, authorities brought Khan to PIMS late at night between Saturday and Sunday for a specialised procedure. Dr Sikandar said doctors fully briefed Khan on his condition and obtained written consent before treatment.
The medical team performed the procedure in a sterile operating theatre and completed it in around 20 minutes. Throughout the process, Khan’s vital signs remained stable.
Dr. Asim Yousuf, who has been Imran Khan's personal physician for the past twenty years, says that there is no doctor at PIMS Hospital who can treat retinal disease.

Doctors later discharged him with follow-up instructions, medical advice, and documentation for continued care.
The medical clarification came after a sit-in by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Party leaders demanded access to Khan and clarity about his health.
After meetings with the Chief Justice, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said authorities assured the party that Khan’s family would receive his medical report. He added that the party would continue efforts to secure meetings between Khan and his family. Following these assurances, PTI ended its hours-long protest.
Reports of Khan’s brief hospital visit first surfaced midweek, triggering concern within PTI. Party chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said he learned about the reported eye issue through media coverage, while Khan’s sister Noreen Khan denied claims of an eye infection.
