PTI Chairman Imran Khan countered allegations made by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah. Sanaullah claimed that PTI was plotting a staged “raid and rape” at a prominent party worker’s house, intending to tarnish law enforcement agencies’ image. Khan dismissed these allegations as a ploy to distract from impending “horror stories.”
Khan’s rebuttal came following a late-night press conference of the Interior Minister in Faisalabad. Sanaullah alleged that a telephone conversation intercepted by intelligence agencies revealed a scheme to stage a “raid and rape” at a known PTI worker’s home. Despite making these serious allegations, the Interior Minister did not present any evidence to substantiate his claims.
Sanaullah indicated that the alleged plan involved staging a real raid on a recognized PTI worker’s residence, during which gunshots would be fired, causing casualties. According to him, this was all orchestrated to bring attention to human rights violations in Pakistan.
Furthermore, Sanaullah asserted that the intercepted conversation revealed a secondary plot to perpetrate an actual sexual assault, which would then be blamed on law enforcement agencies operating under government orders.
Sanaullah accused PTI of planning to publicize this issue internationally. Furthermore, he hinted that this act could be executed “tonight” (Sunday night), thus justifying the need to alert the public about this sinister plot.
In addition to his press conference, the minister voiced his allegations on Twitter, restating the goal to “falsely implicate law enforcement institutions in the crime” and internationalize the issue.
In response, Khan said: “If there were any doubts about women being mistreated in jails, this press conference from this certified criminal should remove all such doubts.”
Khan highlighted the intent to obscure and prevent disturbing stories from reaching the media. In addition, he claimed that women were being ill-treated and harassed by the state for expressing their right to peaceful protest.
Parallelly, Islamabad police encouraged their personnel to ensure the operationality of surveillance cameras in police stations, offices, and jails to counter potential “plans to target officials.”
The police force shed light on an orchestrated campaign aimed at discrediting institutions, in which officials of all ranks would be targeted.
While acknowledging that all women are entitled to respect, Islamabad police cautioned that certain women could be manipulated in this campaign. They urged officials to uphold transparency to thwart such tactics.
