Imran Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has appointed Barrister Gohar Khan, a key legal team member, as the party’s interim chairman for the upcoming intra-party elections. Gohar, who has long served as a legal advisor for the party and Khan, expressed his surprise and honour at being selected for this significant role within PTI.
The decision was made public during a press conference in Islamabad, attended by PTI leaders Barrister Ali Zafar, spokesperson Raoof Hasan, and Barrister Gohar Khan himself. The announcement comes as PTI prepares for its intra-party elections, scheduled for Saturday.
Temporary Chairmanship and Future of PTI Leadership
Barrister Ali Zafar clarified that Gohar Khan’s appointment as chairman is temporary. This decision was made in response to Imran Khan’s current disqualification in the wake of the Toshakhana case. Zafar emphasized that this is a provisional measure and that Imran Khan is expected to reassume his position as the party’s chairman once his disqualification is overturned.
Barrister Zafar strongly stated during the press conference, “There is no concept of PTI without Imran Khan.” This comment highlights the integral role that Imran Khan plays in the party and the expectation that he will return to lead PTI soon. The appointment of Barrister Gohar Khan is seen as a strategic move to ensure stable leadership in the party while Imran Khan addresses his legal challenges.
