A Pakistani anti-terrorism court in Gujranwala sentenced Muhammad Naveed to life imprisonment on two counts on Saturday, April 26, 2025, for his role in a November 2022 attack on former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The verdict addresses a shooting during a political rally in Wazirabad, Punjab, which left Khan injured and one person dead.
Naveed was convicted of terrorism and the murder of Moazzam, a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf activist, and fined PKR 500,000. He also received a five-year sentence for injuring four others. However, the court acquitted him of charges related to Khan’s injuries and eight others, as they did not appear in court despite a summons. Two co-accused, Tayyab Jahangir Butt and Waqas, were also acquitted.

The attack took place 200 km from Lahore, resulting in Khan sustaining bullet wounds to his right leg. He accused a senior ISI official, then-Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and former Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah of conspiring to assassinate him. However, his complaint did not lead to a registered FIR.
