Barrister Gohar Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has officially announced the appointment of Sher Afzal Marwat as the nominee for Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
Khan, during a press briefing outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Barrister Gohar shared insights from his visit to Imran Khan, PTI’s founder, who is currently incarcerated. He noted that the jail administration had restricted the visit, allowing only six lawyers access and discontinuing the previously scheduled Thursday meetings. He highlighted that similar to the previous day, lawyer Intezar Panjutha was denied permission to meet with Imran Khan despite the critical nature of the meeting.
Barrister Gohar also mentioned the stringent security measures, including prohibitions on bringing pens or paper into the jail.
Responding to inquiries about political alliances, Barrister Gohar expressed openness to forming coalitions with any party that supports the supremacy of law.
He sharply criticized the management of Imran Khan’s legal proceedings, accusing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of targeting the PTI founder unfairly. He drew comparisons with the treatment of other political figures like Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and Asif Ali Zardari, who, according to him, enjoy greater freedoms.
Reiterating the political decisions made by Imran Khan, Barrister Gohar confirmed that Khan himself finalized Sher Afzal Marwat’s nomination for the PAC chairmanship.
Additionally, he outlined PTI’s organizational efforts in Lahore and announced the formation of a coordination committee, mentioning that Salman Akram Raja would play a pivotal role in this new structure.
