On Friday, a court in the federal capital convicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in a high-profile £190 million case.
Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana sentenced the PTI founder to 14 years in prison and his wife to seven years, imposing substantial fines on both. Imran Khan faces a fine of Rs1 million, and Bushra Bibi a fine of Rs0.5 million. If they fail to pay these fines, Imran Khan will serve an additional six months in prison and Bushra Bibi an additional three months.
The verdict at Adiala Jail was attended by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team headed by Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi. Also present were Bushra Bibi and legal representatives, including Barristers Gohar Khan, Shoaib Shaheen, and Salman Akram Raja.
To ensure order during the verdict, the Rawalpindi police implemented a thorough security strategy. SP Saddar Nabeel Khokhar supervised the jail’s surveillance, with SDPO Saddar Daniyal Rana serving as the security in-charge and SHO Saddar Aizaz Azim overseeing the overall security arrangements.
Saqib Abbasi, the SHO of Chontra Police Station, and Inspector Muhammad Saleem, in charge of the Adiala Checkpoint, have been given additional responsibilities.
Additional personnel from six police stations bolstered the police force, and Elite and Dolphin Forces were deployed to enhance security. Under Inspector Nasreen Batool’s leadership, female officers were also engaged in security operations.
