Hindu students at the University of Karachi claimed that Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) members prevented them from celebrating Holi through “violence.”
Holi, also known as the “festival of colors,” is a springtime Hindu festival celebrated with traditional and spiritual fervor by Hindus in Pakistan and around the world.
The students who planned the Holi celebration claimed to be from the Sindhi department and had been subjected to “torture” due to their actions.
They asserted that “a few Jamiat boys stopped us from celebrating Holi.” They triumphed over the other students and us.
A female student supported this allegation in a video statement, stating that while she and her classmates were celebrating Holi, IJT students “harassed” them and physically assaulted the male students.
Furthermore, Sindh Universities Minister Ismail Rahu was made aware of the incident and instructed KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi to investigate.
Rahu suggested that the university administration investigate the situation and submit a comprehensive report.
He continued, “Our religion and law teach respect for all religions and beliefs and provide complete freedom for people to celebrate their festivals. Therefore, Hindu students are permitted to celebrate their festivals at the university, and nobody can stop them.”
However, the IJT insisted it had nothing to do with the incident and claimed they respect all religions.
