On Thursday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) temporarily halted the district administration’s decision to lower roti prices in Islamabad, postponing further discussion until the next hearing on May 6. Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri presided over the session, addressing a petition filed by the president of the Nanbai Welfare Association.
During the proceedings, the association’s lawyer challenged the controller general’s authority to mandate price reductions under Section III, citing the escalating costs and high rents that bread makers incur.
Justice Jahangiri raised concerns about whether the Naanbais were appropriately consulted on flour price adjustments, hinting that external factors might influence the price changes.
This legal intervention follows a recent disagreement between the district administration and local naanbais concerning enforced price reductions in the twin cities. The Pakistan Naanbai Association resisted these reductions, increasing naan prices by Rs.5.
