The Islamabad High Court (IHC)’s Justice Babar Sattar has directed the Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum, to investigate and submit a report on the leaked audio involving Bushra Bibi, wife of PTI’s former chairman Imran Khan, and her lawyer, Latif Khosa.
The court’s order comes in response to a petition filed by Khosa regarding the leak.
In addition to the ISI’s involvement, the IHC has also instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to conduct audio forensics on the leaked call to determine its origins. Notices have been issued to the FIA, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for their responses.
The case has been adjourned until December 11. During the hearing, Justice Sattar raised concerns about the privacy of individuals and the broadcast of private conversations on television channels.
The leaked audio has sparked a debate on the privacy of communication and the role of regulatory authorities. Latif Khosa criticized Pemra for its inaction while the leaked audio was aired on news channels, highlighting the sensitivity of lawyer-client conversations.
The issue extends beyond individual concerns, affecting Pakistan’s legal fraternity and justice system. The origins of the audio leak and its dissemination on social media and television channels are under scrutiny, with the legal proceedings seeking to address the breach of privacy and the potential legal ramifications for those involved.
