The annual Consumer Electronics Show has long been known for showcasing cutting-edge technology in autonomous driving, electric vehicles, and artificial intelligence. At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, however, one unexpected attraction captured the crowd’s attention: humanoid robots competing in the Ultimate Fighting Bots (UFB) arena.
Unlike traditional robot battles that rely on wheeled machines and destructive tools, the UFB competition focused on human-like movement. The humanoid robots mimicked the real-time actions of their human pilots, trading punches and kicks in a mixed martial arts-style format.
Spectators watched as the robots stumbled, swung, and occasionally connected, drawing laughter and cheers throughout the bouts. A human referee oversaw each match, reinforcing the illusion of a real combat sport rather than a technical demonstration.

How the Robot Fights Works
Pilots controlled the robots from ringside using motion-sensing Nintendo controllers and live camera feeds. Every command translated instantly into robotic movement, creating moments of both chaos and comedy when robots missed strikes or delivered unexpected blows.
“This is the sport of the future,” said Vitaly Bulatov, co-founder of Ultimate Fighting Bots, who launched the concept with his wife, Xenia. The founders believe audiences will connect not just with the machines, but with the human stories behind the pilots.

While the matches did not yet resemble the polished realism of the film Real Steel, the concept has gained real momentum. Previous UFB events in San Francisco sold out and attracted a young, tech-savvy audience eager for immersive entertainment.
