HMD Global, the manufacturer of Nokia smartphones for the last seven years, plans to launch its own HMD-branded smartphone mobile devices.
HMD Global was founded in 2016 following Microsoft’s decade-long divestiture of Nokia brand rights. In 2017, it introduced its first product, the Nokia 6.
HMD Global’s strategy shift by the Finnish firm is anticipated to signal the conclusion of Nokia-branded smartphone production. Currently, HMD is hinting at its future offerings, providing limited insights into the forthcoming HMD phone lineup.
A significant update includes modifications to the X service user ID and the website URL. Expectations are set for the inaugural HMD-branded smartphone to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona.
HMD’s official site mentions creating an exclusive HMD brand while continuing to produce Nokia smartphones and feature phones.
It also hints at forthcoming products from new collaborations. The statement on the HMD website confirms, “While we continue as producers of Nokia smartphones and Nokia dumbphones, we are excited to introduce original HMD devices and products from brand-new partnerships.”
