The Israeli military confirmed a Red Cross convoy is en route to a northern Gaza meeting point to receive the first batch of hostages. “The IDF is prepared for additional transfers,” the statement noted. The release aligns with the first phase of a US-brokered deal, exchanging hostages for 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
The agreement follows indirect talks in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, under President Trump’s 20-point plan. It aims to halt the two-year war, which killed 1,200 Israelis and over 67,000 Palestinians, per Gaza’s health ministry. The release marks a critical step toward peace, though governance and disarmament issues remain unresolved.

The hostage release offers hope for ending Gaza’s conflict, reuniting families, and advancing ceasefire efforts. Challenges in subsequent phases could impact stability.
