KARACHI: K-Electric has issued an official statement expressing profound grief and extending heartfelt condolences to the victims and families affected by the devastating fire and partial collapse at Gul Plaza on MA Jinnah Road.
In its communication, the utility provider confirmed that the building collapse damaged an adjacent K-Electric substation. As an immediate safety precaution, power supply to the directly impacted area has been suspended.
“Our teams are present at the site, working in close coordination with civil administration and rescue authorities to provide full support,” stated the K-Electric spokesperson. The company is leveraging alternative networks to supply electricity to surrounding localities, aiming to minimise inconvenience for residents.

The catastrophic third-degree fire erupted on Saturday night around 10 PM within the shopping plaza’s mezzanine floor. The premises included a ground floor, mezzanine, and two upper floors. The flames rapidly engulfed shops on the ground and first floors.
Authorities have reported that 11 individuals are in critical condition. Three deceased have been identified as Aamir (30), Faraz (55), and Asif (40), while the identification of the remaining victims is underway. Rescue officials confirmed that several people remained trapped during the operation.
Fire brigade vehicles were deployed to the scene. At its peak, four fire tenders and a snorkel were engaged in the firefighting and rescue operation.
K-Electric reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and community welfare, noting that all possible measures will be taken to restore normalcy once the site is declared safe by the relevant authorities.
