As anticipation builds for Grand Theft Auto VI, Kaspersky warns of increasing scams aimed at fans through fake links and phishing attacks.
Cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has reported a significant increase in malicious attacks targeting fans of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) as its release date of May 26, 2026, approaches. The firm predicts millions of attempted attacks, with fraudsters capitalising on the excitement surrounding the game release. They use tactics such as offering fake beta access, early deals, and counterfeit installers to lure fans into phishing traps to steal their credentials. For Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), 4.5 million fake links were detected in 2024 and 2025, suggesting a similar scale of threats for GTA VI.
As per India Times, scams targeting fans of Genshin Impact, NBA, and FIFA surfaced between 2024 and early 2025, highlighting a larger threat in the gaming community. Kaspersky advises checking links before clicking, as unsuspecting fans may risk data theft.
