It may sound surprising, but the last mainline Grand Theft Auto title launched in 2013. More than a decade later, anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI continues to build, despite multiple re-releases of GTA V across new consoles and PC.
Rockstar Games’ next flagship title has become one of the most anticipated releases in gaming history. Despite several delays, industry analysts believe GTA 6 is on track to become the largest entertainment launch ever.
GTA 6 release date update
Rockstar Games initially targeted an autumn 2025 release window for GTA 6. The studio later revised that timeline, announcing May 26, 2026, as the new launch date. Following another internal setback reported in November 2025, Rockstar confirmed a further delay, pushing the official release to November 19, 2026.
The developer has stated that the additional time is necessary to ensure the game meets the studio’s quality standards and the expectations of its global fan base. Rockstar has emphasised that polish and performance remain top priorities.

While gameplay details remain limited, the teaser suggested significant advancements in world design, character interaction, and storytelling. At launch, GTA 6 will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Rockstar has not announced support for last-generation consoles, and a Nintendo Switch release appears unlikely.
A PC version has not yet been officially confirmed, but industry observers expect it to follow later, consistent with Rockstar’s release strategy for previous titles. The studio has also indicated that future platforms could be supported as new systems emerge.
