On Tuesday, the Makran division and the provincial capital witnessed a series of at least nine grenade attacks. These incidents targeted the election offices of various candidates and polling stations.
According to police reports, assailants on motorcycles launched a late-evening attack using hand grenades at a government school in Killi Ahmedzai on the outskirts of Quetta. This school, serving as a polling station, suffered window damage when a grenade detonated in its courtyard.
Law Enforcement Response
In an effective response, law enforcement agencies averted an additional attack at a government school in Pasni. They discovered an explosive device near the Bagh Bazaar Government School, which the bomb disposal squad successfully defused.
Furthermore, a grenade was thrown at the National Database and Registration Authority office in the Hoshab area of Kech district, resulting in window damage but no casualties. The series of attacks also extended to the residences of political candidates.
Specifically, the homes of BNP-Mengal’s candidate Mir Mohammad Yaqoob in Awaran district, PML-N candidate Mir Mohammad Aslam Buledi in Buleda, and others faced grenade attacks. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the candidates.
In addition, the town of Panjgur reported two explosions targeting the houses of National Party leader Abdul Qadeer Sajdi and independent candidate Dr. Noor Baloch. Both individuals escaped harm.
PPP candidate Agha Gull similarly survived an attack on his home. Lastly, an assault on a security forces post in the Tump area of Kech district involved a PRG-7 projectile, causing an explosion near the post without any fatalities. These attacks have heightened concerns over security for the upcoming elections, prompting increased vigilance by law enforcement agencies.
