Six months after unveiling the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6, Rockstar Games has remained silent on releasing a second trailer and the official game launch date.
Recent activity on social media platform X suggests an upcoming announcement regarding the game’s release. A notable tweet indicated that the publisher, Take-Two Interactive, is poised to reveal their fiscal year 2025 plans during their fourth-quarter earnings call on May 16th. The announcement will include games scheduled for release before April 2025 and projected revenue figures.
The tweet further speculated that with Take-Two projecting $7 billion in revenue, the release of GTA 6 could be anticipated in early 2025, and a second trailer might be released between late May and early June.
This speculation arises amidst Take-Two’s broader corporate activities, which include significant restructuring. Recently, Take-Two Interactive has closed down Intercept Games, the developers behind Kerbal Space Program 2, and Roll7 studio, known for OlliOlli World and Rollerdrome. These closures align with a broader company strategy to streamline operations, evidenced by the layoff of approximately 5% of its workforce, around 600 employees and the cancellation of projects totalling $140 million.
Additionally, a recent report raised concerns about a potential delay in GTA 6’s launch, suggesting a possible shift from 2025 to 2026 due to development setbacks. It’s also important to note that any announced release date might initially apply only to console versions, leaving PC gamers awaiting a later release.
In a strategic move to cut costs, Take-Two has announced through an SEC filing, as reported by Bloomberg, plans to save over $165 million annually. This saving will be achieved through reductions in current expenses and decreased projected expense growth over the coming years.
