Beyoncé is getting closer to becoming the artist with the most Grammy awards in the show’s history after taking home two Grammys on Sunday.

Beyoncé won the award for best dance-electronic music recording for “Break My Soul” during the Grammy Awards pre-telecast ceremony for the first time. For “Plastic Off the Sofa,” she also took home the prize for best traditional RandB performance.

Beyoncé only needs two more victories to surpass the record currently held by the late Hungarian-British conductor Georg Solti, who has 31 Grammys. Solti has held the record since that year.

Beyoncé is the first performer to receive a nomination in the dance category. However, the best dance-electronic music album nomination goes to her seventh studio album.

The most nominated artist for album, song, and record of the year, Beyoncé, arrived at the ceremony on Sunday. But, of course, she won’t have won anything since she was named song of the year for “Single Ladies” in 2010 if she succeeds in any of those important categories.

“Hrs. and Hrs.” by best new artist Muni Long beat Beyoncé in the best R&B performance category. “Cuff It” and “Be Alive,” from the “King Richard” soundtrack, are Beyonce’s other nominations.

One of the main plotlines going into the ceremony on Sunday is that many of the biggest names in music, including Harry Styles and Mary J. Blige, are up for the night’s top prizes. For an album of the year, nominees include Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, ABBA, and Lizzo. Adele joins them in the competition for a record of the year.

Following her victories for the best audiobook, narration, and storytelling recording, Viola Davis has earned the title of “EGOT,” which refers to someone who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. After marching on stage to accept her award, the actor delivered an emotional speech and firmly exclaimed, “I just EGOT.”.

Oh my God, she exclaimed. According to Davis, “I wrote this book to honor the 6-year-old Viola, to honor her, her life, her joy, her trauma, everything.”. Just such a journey, I tell you. “.

A significant artist’s pre-telecast performance featured Brandi Carlile, who rarely performed. Instead, the performer arrived after her song “Broke Horses” won a songwriter’s award for best rock performance and best rock song.

It’s rock ‘n’ roll, man,” proclaimed a beaming Carlile as she and a few bandmates jogged onto the stage. I can’t even begin to express how much this means to us. Seattle is where we were raised. We decided to form a band when I first met these guys 22 years ago. “.

The Hanseroth twins and Carlile collaborated on the song “Broken Horses.”.

It’s amazing, oh my god, she exclaimed. I’ll never be the same, you know. “.

With the win for “The Heart Part 5,” which also honored his songwriting as the best rap song winner, Kendrick Lamar increased his winning streak in the best rap performance category.

To win the best roots gospel album for “The Urban Hymnal,” the Tennessee State University Marching Band defeated artists like Willie Nelson. As a result, the band was the first college marching band to receive a nomination in the category.

In his acceptance speech, Sir the Baptist, who accepted the prize on behalf of the band, emphasized how underfunded historically Black colleges and universities like Tennessee State are, saying he had to “put my last dime to get us across the line.”.

The live broadcast will be hosted by Trevor Noah and start at 8 p.m. from the Crypto. Com Arena in downtown Los Angeles. m. Eastern on CBS and Paramount. The show will feature performances by Mary J. Blige and Bad Bunny. Blige, Sam Smith, Lizzo, and special musical remembrances of Takeoff, Loretta Lynn, and Christine McVie, among others.

Despite this, most of the 91 Grammy categories are presented during the Recording Academy’s live-streamed Premiere Ceremony.

There may be numerous additional firsts: If Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti” wins album of the year, it will be the first time a Spanish-language album has won the top prize. Likewise, Taylor Swift might win her first song of the year award for “All Too Well,” even though her most recent album, “Midnights,” was disqualified from the 2019 Grammy Awards. “Adele would become the most decorated artist in the category with three wins if her song “Easy on Me” won song of the year, joining her previous victories for the megahits “Hello” and “Rolling in the Deep. “.

Several new categories were added to the Grammys this year, including one for video game music composition, which the “Assassins Creed won: Valhalla” soundtrack. “.

The metal god’s late-career renaissance was solidified by his two Grammy wins.

The best metal performance was Tony Iommi’s “Degradation Rules” by Ozzy Osbourne, and the best rock album was his “Patient Number 9” album.

Osbourne had earlier this year canceled his American tour dates for 2023. K. Europe and his health would probably prevent him from going on another tour.

After the pandemic first postponed, then forced the Grammys to move to Las Vegas last year, this year’s show marks their return to Los Angeles. Jon Batiste received the award for the album of the year at the ceremony, which Noah also hosted.
