The federal government has rejected the opposition’s terms of reference (TOR) to hold an inquiry into allegations of offshore holdings against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family.
Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid addressing a joint press conference with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali said“The words used in the opposition’s TOR reflect mala fide intentions of the opposition parties. It is only targeting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif,”
Hamid further said “It’s not a serious document and it appears opposition doesn’t want a commission to be set up for Panama leaks,”
“The Supreme Court has all the powers to decide and give directions regarding inquiry into Panama Papers. We have fully empowered the commission to do what is needed to examine Panama papers.”
Chaudhry Nisar Ali lashed out at opposition parties for doing “politicking” on the issue of Panama papers.
“Opposition has frequently changed its demands about Panama probe. One by one they kept changing their demands,” he said.
Khan said that he had accepted a demand from PTI Chairman Imran Khan to hold an inquiry through FIA.
“We will accept whatever Supreme Court is decided in this case,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Sharif already made it clear that he would go home if found guilty by the commission.
Nisar urged the opposition parties to help the apex court to take this matter to a logical end.
“One particular opposition group is targeting a personality, not the corruption. There is no limitation of powers for our Supreme Court. It can hold the inquiry as per its wish.”
He accused opposition parties of spreading anarchy in the name of Panama papers.
“Please don’t try to dictate the Supreme Court. Don’t confuse and befool the nation.”
Imran offers joint probe into PTI women harassment row
“I offer a joint commission comprising administration, opposition parties and media to identify people involved in harassing PTI female workers,” he said.
“All parties have big rallies, but I want to ask why is it that at only PTI jalsas are women harassed,” he questioned.
