On Wednesday, the federal government announced plans to provide the public with 40,000 electric bikes (e-bikes) at subsidized prices.
Industries and Production Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain announced this during a press conference in Islamabad.
Minister Hussain highlighted the significant incentives offered to foreign investors for setting up electric vehicle plants in Pakistan. He emphasized that introducing electric vehicles will cut pollution and reduce the country’s oil import expenses.
The government has set aside a Rs 4 billion subsidy to boost the adoption of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers. To facilitate this shift, banks will provide soft loans to the public.
“Under our subsidy scheme, we will distribute 40,000 electric motorcycles, including 120 motorcycles gifted to top-performing students nationwide, to celebrate academic success,” Minister Hussain added. He also noted plans to establish about 3,000 charging stations nationwide for electric vehicles.
