During Ramadan, federal, provincial, and district administrations will have “a free hand” in dealing with hoarders and profiteers.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting on Monday to examine the availability and costs of essential food items during Ramadan, after which he issued the decree.
The prime minister loosened all restrictions and ordered “operation clean-up” at markets, stores, and warehouses that had stocked up on essentials before Ramadan.
He argued that those who demand high charges from individuals who are already struggling financially should be punished severely.
According to APP, the prime minister delegated the responsibility of assuring goods availability and controlling pricing to federal officials and provincial premiers.
He stated that the local officer in charge would be punished for scarcity and high costs. “Edible products, particularly wheat, were abundant throughout the nation,” he stated.
To reach the biggest number of individuals, he recommended that Utility Shops improve the quality of their products and build additional mobile stores. Furthermore, to maintain pricing stability, he authorized the establishment of “Sasta Ramazan Bazaars” across the nation’s capital and provinces.
