Sources indicate that the leaders of the government coalition have instructed parliamentarians currently abroad to return home by October 15 amid ongoing consultations and public debates regarding the 26th constitutional amendment.
Currently, several senators and National Assembly members are out of the country. “There are more than 10 treasury lawmakers abroad,” one source disclosed. Notably, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry from PML-N and Syed Khursheed Shah from the People’s Party are among the Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) overseas. Senator Rana Mehmood ul Hassan of the People’s Party, Dinesh Kumar of BAP, Hussain Illahi of PML-Q, and Senator Abdul Qadir are also on foreign visits.
Bilawal Bhutto, Chairman of the People’s Party, expressed a proactive stance, stating, “If I were the law minister, I would have endeavoured to pass the constitutional amendments before October 25.”
He further emphasized the government’s intent to expedite the amendments, adding, “The government is certainly aiming to pass the amendments as soon as possible.” He also noted the importance of achieving consensus on the amendments, which the government eagerly anticipates.
Additionally, he mentioned that the appointment of the head judge of the constitutional court is still under consideration, highlighting a critical aspect of the legislative changes under discussion.
