Google Workspace Enhances AI Offerings and Adjusts Pricing

On Thursday, Google announced price increases for its Workspace subscriptions in select regions, citing an enhancement in overall subscription value due to the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) services. All Workspace plans will now include access to the Gemini AI tools, previously available only through a monthly add-on priced at $20 in the US.

In a blog post, the Mountain View-based tech giant detailed the restructuring of its Business and Enterprise Workspace subscription plans. Previously, companies paid standard subscription fees for Workspace apps plus an additional fee for the Gemini-powered AI features.

Google has eliminated the separate Gemini add-on and incorporated these features into the Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, and Enterprise subscriptions. In the US, this adjustment has led to a $2 price increase, bringing the cost of the lowest tier to $14 monthly. Notably, prices in India remain unchanged, though the plans now list AI features as a benefit.

We believe AI can transform how every business works. That’s why, starting today, we're including Gemini as part of #GoogleWorkspace without the need to purchase an add-on—across Gmail, Docs & more—it's rolling out to Business & Enterprise plans soon → https://t.co/zBNmTvB0OX pic.twitter.com/vR1ZDMggxS

Google explained the rationale behind the price adjustment: “A customer using the Workspace Business Standard plan with a Gemini Business add-on previously paid $32 per user per month. Now, that same customer will pay just $14 per user per month—only $2 more than they were paying for Workspace without Gemini.”

This integration allows Workspace users to utilize Gemini AI tools in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Meet, Chat, Vids, and more. It also includes access to the Gemini Advanced chatbot and all the Gemini models available to paid subscribers. Additionally, the subscription now offers access to NotebookLM Plus, the premium version of Google’s AI-powered research assistant platform.

While this change significantly increases value for those already paying for or planning to acquire the Gemini add-on, businesses that were satisfied with the basic Workspace features now face higher costs.
