This can, perhaps, only happen in Pakistan where a family for the sake of its ‘honour’ can go to any lengths of inhumanity.
Some 21 members of the family of a girl, who contracted court marriage with a youth, submitted an application to DPO Muhammad Faisal Rana in an open court that they took an oath on the Holy Quran in a village mosque to kill the couple for the sake of family honour and face the case collectively.
The DPO referred the application on Thursday to the Gogera SHO for further legal action.
Reports said Amir Iqbal of village 26/GD had contracted court marriage with Shakila Bibi on May 29. The girl’s family took the case to a village panchayat and demanded the hand of Iqbal’s sister.
Iqbal’s father pleaded that his daughter Tahira Bibi, 13, was underage but he would marry her in Shakila’s family after she attained the lawful age of marriage.
However, Shakila’s father Ali Sher refused to accept the plea of Iqbal’s father and left the panchayat.
Later, the 21 members of the Ali Sher family, including Allah Ditta, Yara, Adnan, Shahid, Mir Muhammad, Alam Sher, Ishaq, Asghar, Akbar, Rustam, Mumtaz, Imdad, Ijaz, Abbas, Mushtaq, Ahmad and Mausam, had held a Jirga in the village mosque on Wednesday and took oath to kill the couple for the sake of family honour and face the legal consequences collectively.
