The Accountability Court (AC) has issued a notice to Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, directing him to appear in court on February 20, 2024, concerning an alleged corruption case.
Gulbar Khan, who has recently been declared an absconder, is wanted by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police about a case dating back to July 2015. The case involves a fraudulent cheque worth Rs 2.2 million, leading to the Mardan court issuing arrest warrants against the Chief Minister. The matter was brought to the court by Senator Faisal Kareem from Mardan.
Gulbar Khan, representing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ‘forward bloc’, was elected as the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. His election was supported by 19 lawmakers, including members from the PTI forward bloc, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
In the 32-member GB Assembly, the PTI held 19 seats, followed by the PPP, PML-N, Muttahida Wahdat-i-Muslimeen, Islam Tehreek Pakistan, JUI-F, and one independent candidate. The former Chief Minister had nominated Raja Azam Khan for the position with the endorsement of the PTI chief.
