In response to Pakistan’s climbing petroleum product prices, transporters and the private sector have revised the fares for passenger trains and buses.
Effective immediately, fares for passenger trains, including Fareed Express and Shah Latif Express, witnessed a 9% hike. A ticketing official confirmed that this updated fare is now integrated into their system. Consequently, the ticket price for the Karachi to Lahore route now stands at Rs3,450.
Intercity bus services followed suit, adjusting their fares in the backdrop of the recent petroleum price surge. The breakdown of the fare adjustments is as follows:
- Karachi to Larkana: Increase of Rs100, new fare Rs1,500.
- Karachi to Shikarpur: Hiked by Rs200, setting the price at Rs1,600.
- Karachi to Mehar: A rise of Rs100, updating the fare to Rs1,400.
- Other routes, such as Karachi to Sehwan, Karachi to Naseerabad, and Karachi to Hyderabad, have also seen Rs100 hikes, with new fares being Rs1,200, Rs1,400, and Rs600, respectively.
It’s noteworthy that the interim government announced a significant rise in fuel prices just a day before. Petrol saw an addition of Rs17.50 per litre, setting a new record at Rs290.45 per litre. Similarly, high-speed diesel leapt by Rs20 per litre, which means it will now be priced at Rs293.40 per litre.
