The Federal Government of Pakistan has announced a new initiative to provide outstanding students nationwide with a free E-Bike program.
Federal Minister announced Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, who chaired a comprehensive meeting on the electric vehicle policy.
During the meeting, Hussain directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to install electric charging stations at all petrol pumps in Islamabad. The program is part of a broader effort to make Islamabad a model city for electric vehicle integration, aligning with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision for a digitally transparent and environmentally friendly capital.
Officials have awarded 120 top federal board students to the free E-bike program for their academic achievements. Additionally, Hussain announced the availability of 39,000 E-bikes and 1,900 electric rickshaws on concessional loans. A comprehensive electric vehicle policy will be revealed soon.
The meeting also showcased the ongoing efforts to install 40 charging stations along motorways and national highways, enhancing the country’s EV infrastructure.
Punjab Government’s Enhanced E-Bike Allocation
Following the federal initiative, the Punjab government has expanded the number of E-Bikes allocated under the Chief Minister Youth Initiative from 20,000 to 27,200. This expansion aims to assist orphaned students and all female students who applied for electric bikes, providing them greater access to these sustainable vehicles.

The Bank of Punjab has authorized loans for 20,000 students to purchase e-bikes. To date, officials have distributed 7,500 bikes, with deliveries continuing daily. The transport department reports that it has delivered over 5,000 petrol-powered and 2,000 electric bikes to students and plans to distribute an additional 6,500 electric bikes soon.
