Law enforcement agencies have detained at least four local leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), including a former provincial minister, in a series of raids on Friday night in Hyderabad.

Ex-Sindh minister of Auqaf and Zakat and present union committee-73 chairperson Syed Suhail Mashhadi, UC-23 chairperson Rafique Khan Ajmeri, Hyderabad zonal committee member Fahim Raheel Khan and Muhammad Waqeel, father of All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organisation’s (APSMO) local leader Ali Raza, were picked up in separate raids in Latifabad Unit 8, Latifabad Unit 9, Resham Bazaar and Khaata Chowk.

Mashhadi and Ajmeri are also members of MQM’s zonal committee, according to MQM spokesperson Javed Khan.

MQM leaders on Saturday protested outside the Hyderabad Press Club, alleging the Rangers made the arrests without producing arrest warrants.

The party spokesperson said no one among the detainees has been nominated in any police case, adding that the police are neither confirming nor denying the arrest. The party has submitted an application to the district police for their recovery.
