Ghulam Sarwar Khan, a former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, has been arrested by the Islamabad police in connection with the May 9 riots case and the attack on the Judicial Complex.
The arrest also included Ghulam Sarwar Khan’s son, Mansoor Hayyat, and nephew, Ammar Siddiqui, who were taken into custody from a residence in Islamabad’s F-8 Sector belonging to a friend of Ghulam Sarwar Khan.
The police confirmed that Ghulam Sarwar Khan, his son, and his nephew were wanted in connection with the May 9 riots case and the attack on the Judicial Complex. Cases against the accused have been registered in Islamabad, Taxila, and Rawalpindi.
It is worth noting that the police had been conducting raids to apprehend Ghulam Sarwar Khan and had even sealed his petrol pump. The arrest comes amidst violent clashes that erupted throughout Pakistan after the arrest of the former prime minister and PTI chief from the Islamabad High Court.
Protests have occurred in major and remote cities as party workers are agitated over their chairman’s detention. Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad have requested the intervention of the armed forces to maintain law and order.
During one of the protests by PTI workers, there were attacks on Army installations and the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore.
