The Fokker 50 crash landing in Mogadishu ended without injuries after a passenger aircraft carrying 55 people overran the runway at Aden Abdulle International Airport.
The plane, operated by Starsky Aviation, had departed from Mogadishu and was heading to Gaalkacyo. About 15 minutes after takeoff, the crew reported a technical issue and requested to return, according to Somalia’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Officials said the pilot attempted to land safely. However, the aircraft failed to stop on the runway and overshot the tarmac before coming to rest in shallow water near the shoreline.

Ahmed Macalin Hassan, director of the CAA, confirmed that the aircraft was involved in a runway overrun. Authorities stated that all 55 passengers and crew members survived.
Images circulating on social media showed passengers walking away from the plane. Emergency services transported all occupants to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Starsky Aviation’s chief executive, Ahmed Nur, described the event as a runway overrun followed by a controlled landing near the shoreline. He confirmed there were no fatalities.

The airline’s spokesperson added that the pilot’s calm decision-making ensured everyone’s safety. Investigations are now underway to determine the exact cause of the technical problem.
The Somali Civil Aviation Authority stated that the aircraft, registered as 60-YAS, was an F50 model involved in the overrun.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the nature of the technical fault. Investigators will review flight data, maintenance records, and crew reports to establish what led to the emergency landing.
