A severe fog-related accident in Hafizabad has resulted in the deaths of five individuals, with two others sustaining severe injuries and currently receiving medical treatment.
The incident occurred when a speeding car collided with a wall near Asghar Chowk amid dense fog, initially killing three people and injuring four.
Rescue teams promptly transported the injured to a nearby hospital, and the deceased have been identified as relatives from Rawalpindi.
The heartbreaking incident follows another fog-related crash in Tandlianwala town, Punjab, where six family members, including women and children, lost their lives in a collision. The accident occurred in a suburban area when their vehicle collided with a tractor-trolley loaded with sugarcane amid limited visibility from thick fog. The deceased included young children aged three to six years, and three other family members sustained injuries.
Local police reported that the family, hailing from Lahore, was en route to Tandlianwala after exiting the motorway. While the authorities seized the tractor-trolley, the driver managed to escape. The police are investigating the incident, and a case has been registered against the absconding driver.
These incidents highlight the increased risks of travelling in dense fog, which has also led to the temporary closure of motorways in Punjab as authorities urge caution under such hazardous conditions.
