In Largo, Florida, officials confirmed on Saturday that a large alligator was humanely euthanized after being discovered with a 41-year-old woman’s body in a creek.
After receiving a report about a body in the water, local police responded, discovering a 13-foot male alligator near the body. The victim’s identification occurred on Saturday, but the specifics regarding her cause of death remain under investigation.
Jamarcus Bullard, a witness, informed US media that he spotted the alligator holding onto the body. Bullard recounted his attempt to confirm the scene by throwing a rock at the creature, which then dragged the body underwater. He described a strenuous effort by the authorities to control the alligator, noting that the reptile even began to pull a truck into the water at one point. Eventually, they managed to subdue and euthanize the creature.
Florida is known for its sizable alligator population. This incident follows a tragic event in South Carolina in July, where a 69-year-old woman died in an alligator attack.
