On the first day of the third and final Test between England and Pakistan at the Karachi National Stadium, England dismissed Pakistan for 304.
England took wickets regularly throughout the day to keep Pakistan on the defensive.
Spinner Jack Leach took four wickets, while newcomer Rehan Ahmed took two.
In the meantime, Ollie Robinson, Mark Wood, and Joe Root each captured one scalp.
Babar Azam appeared in excellent form, but he was run out in the day’s final session after reaching 78 runs with the assistance of nine fours.
Like Azam, Agha Salman could not convert his fifty runs into a century and was removed with 56 runs.
Other wickets to fall after tea was that of Faheem Ashraf (4) and Nauman Ali (20).
In the second session, Pakistan lost two wickets, with Saud Shakeel (23) and Mohammad Rizwan (19) returning to the pavilion.
Pope took a brilliant catch at short-leg to give Rehan Ahmed his first wicket, while Rizwan was caught by Stokes while attempting to clear the boundary off Joe Root’s delivery.
In the morning session, Abdullah Shafique (8) was the first batsman to be dismissed when a delivery from Leach struck his knee roll.
Shan Masood, who replaced the injured Imam-ul-Haq, edged a short delivery from Mark Wood after hitting 30 runs off 37 deliveries.
Ben Foakes caught Azhar Ali with another leg-side strangle after he had fielded a delivery from Robinson. The seasoned batter tallied 45 runs before being sent packing at noon.
Earlier, Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss against England and elected to bat.
On their first Test tour to Pakistan since 2005, England leads the series 2-0 after winning the first match in Rawalpindi by 74 runs and the second in Multan by 26 runs.
The tourists made two changes from the previous Test, replacing James Anderson and Will Jacks with wicketkeeper Ben Foakes and Rehan Ahmed.
At 18 years and 126 days, Rehan becomes the youngest player to debut for England, surpassing the mark established by Brian Close in 1949 at 18 years and 149 days.
Senior Pakistani hitter Azhar Ali, who revealed on Friday that the Karachi Test would be his final, is one of four changes made to the home team.
Shan Masood, Mohammad Wasim Junior, and Nauman Ali join Imam-ul-Haq (injured), Mohammad Nawaz, Zahid Mahmood, and Mohammad Ali.
Wasim, age 21, is participating in his first Test.
