A fire that broke out on Karachi’s M.A. Jinnah Road has been extinguished, and efforts to cool down the site are in progress, according to rescue officials on Tuesday. They confirmed there were no casualties.
Rescue 1122 reported that their fire and rescue team, supported by two ambulances, four fire trucks, and a snorkel, responded promptly to the emergency at Rimpa Plaza.
The blaze originated on the fourth floor of the 13-story building. The rescue service noted challenges in extinguishing the fire due to inadequate ventilation.
“After hours of efforts, the fire was successfully extinguished,” stated Rescue 1122 official. He also noted that the building contained storage areas for spare machinery parts and materials used in tyre manufacturing, shops, offices, and a clinic.
“The fire started in a fourth-floor shop and quickly spread, initially engulfing this floor and then the fifth. Both floors were destroyed, while the sixth and seventh floors also suffered partial damage,” Khan explained.
He mentioned that a short circuit might have caused the fire.
The Karachi Traffic Police blocked M.A. Jinnah Road near Saeed Manzil at 1:28 pm due to the fire, diverting traffic towards Regal Chowk and Gul Plaza.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah responded by ordering immediate measures to control the fire and requesting a comprehensive report from Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi.
CM Shah also directed the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and relevant departments to inspect buildings to prevent similar incidents in the future.
