The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) with a particular request concerning the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s bail plea.
The FIA, on Sunday, put forth a petition in the Islamabad High Court, expressing its desire for an in-camera (private) hearing of the bail application for Imran Khan in connection with the cipher case. FIA’s Special Prosecutor, Shah Khawar, filed this miscellaneous request, and the IHC has scheduled it for deliberation on Monday under the supervision of IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq.
Previous Bail Application Rejections
PTI leader Imran Khan’s bail verdict by IHC is expected on Monday. The sessions and anti-terrorism courts dismissed prior bail appeals due to procedural oversights. Through his legal team, the PTI chief sought the high court’s intervention to consider the nine yet-to-be-decided bail applications, halting any potential arrests until conclusive judgments are reached.

Recently, FIA presented the challan of the cipher case in a special court, resulting in the indictment of PTI’s Chairman and Vice Chairman, Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The FIA’s stance pushes for the trial and subsequent conviction of PTI’s Chairman and the ex-foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Former minister and PTI leader Asad Umar is absent from the accused list.
Azam Khan, the previous principal secretary to the Prime Minister, is emerging as a pivotal witness for the FIA. The case documents incorporate his statements, shedding light on the sequence of events.
The cipher case traces its origins to an FIR lodged on August 15, implicating former PM Imran Khan and ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi under the Official Secrets Act. Allegations suggest misuse of classified documents and distorted facts related to the diplomatic cipher, hinting at potential conspiracies against state interests.
