Energy Minister Muhammad Ali announced that the interim federal government has no plans to reduce the rates for solar net metering. This initiative allows individuals who have installed solar panels to sell surplus electricity generated during the day back to the National Grid, subsequently lowering their electricity expenses.
In a press conference held with Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori at the Governor House, Minister Ali disclosed that a nationwide campaign to curb electricity theft has been initiated, with the government fervently working to reduce electricity costs. He acknowledged that fluctuations in the dollar rate impacted the July electricity tariffs, resulting in higher bills in August than the preceding dues.
Furthermore, Minister Ali promised to unveil a distinctive electricity tariff scheme for commercial traders before the end of October. “We are also securing gas supplies to sustain industrial operations during winter. It is imperative to keep the industries functioning, and we will be incorporating suggestions from the business sector when presenting plans to the prime minister,” he added.
Governor Tessori, also addressing the gathering, remarked that the business sector is keen on sustaining economic momentum in the country.
