The Federal Directorate of Education has withdrawn the directive for dance competitions in public schools.
Following an offer of collaboration from UNESCO, the Global Organization for Education, to hold dance competitions in Pakistan’s educational institutions, the Federal Directorate of Education issued a notification for conducting dance competitions in schools and also instructed to share the videos on social media.
The directive for dance competitions in public schools raised concerns among parents and civil society. Parents criticized the notification as conflicting with Islamic values and demanded its withdrawal.
After strong backlash from parents, the Federal Directorate of Education has withdrawn the directive for dance competitions in public schools.
It is important to note that UNESCO launched a campaign called “Dance for Education”, encouraging school children to dance to the song “Education in the Air” and post their dance videos on social media with the hashtag “Dance for Education”. The campaign aims to raise awareness among global leaders about the importance of education.
