Christopher Wray, FBI Director, has charged China with embedding harmful software in U.S. computer networks, aiming to undermine essential infrastructure. First Post reveals Wray’s claim that the magnitude of the threat is unprecedented, with the FBI intensely focused on countering China’s actions that threaten U.S. national security.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Wray emphasized the urgency of collaboration to detect, anticipate, and neutralize these threats, highlighting the need for agility and a clear understanding of defence strategies.
In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning refuted Wray’s allegations, asserting China’s strong opposition to cyber-attacks and its commitment to legal action against such activities. Mao accused the U.S. Cyber Force Command of targeting other nations’ critical infrastructure, labelling these actions as legitimate targets for U.S. cyberattacks, calling this stance highly irresponsible and misrepresented.
Mao disclosed that China’s cybersecurity bodies have documented the U.S. government’s sustained cyber-attacks on China’s critical infrastructure since the previous year. Reports by 360 Security Group have detailed over a decade of the National Security Agency’s (NSA) secret hacking operations against major Chinese corporations, with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) deeply engaged in espionage and data theft.
