Former South African cricket captain Faf du Plessis has confirmed his participation in the upcoming Pakistan Super League season following his departure from the Indian Premier League. The veteran batsman announced this career transition through his official social media channels on Saturday.
Du Plessis confirmed he will not participate in the next IPL auction, effectively concluding his 14-season tenure in the tournament. The 40-year-old described this move as opening a new chapter in his professional cricket career.
“As one chapter closes, another one opens,” du Plessis stated. “I’m excited to share that I’ll be joining the PSL next season. I can’t wait to be part of the energy and talent of this league.”
The South African batsman concludes a remarkable IPL career spanning 14 seasons, during which he accumulated more than 4,700 runs with a highest score of 96. Du Plessis established himself as one of the tournament’s most consistent top-order performers while representing Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants, and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Reflecting on his IPL experience, du Plessis described the tournament as “a place I’ve called home for 14 seasons” that provided “friendships, lessons, memories and teammates I’ll cherish forever.”
This will not represent du Plessis’s first PSL experience. The accomplished batsman previously competed for Peshawar Zalmi during the 2020 knockout stage and represented Quetta Gladiators in 2021 before a concussion ended his season prematurely.

His return coincides with significant PSL expansion, as the tournament prepares to welcome two new franchises. This development increases competition and creates additional opportunities for international players within the league.
Du Plessis brings substantial international credentials to the PSL, having scored 4,163 Test runs, 1,507 ODI runs, and 1,527 T20I runs for South Africa while captaining the national team across all formats.
