The European Commission has once again declined to lift the flight ban on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operating within Europe, extending the restriction that has been in place for four years.
The European Commission’s decision stems from the perceived inaction of Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in addressing regulatory concerns.
In a recent meeting on May 31, the European Commission expressed dissatisfaction with the CAA’s efforts, particularly criticizing the authority for its nonchalant approach and the lack of qualified officials.
The ongoing ban affects PIA’s operational capabilities in Europe. It could adversely influence the airline’s potential privatization, signalling significant challenges ahead for Pakistan’s national carrier in regaining access to European skies.
