England fast bowler Brydon Carse has received a three-month suspension from all cricket forms due to betting violations.
Brydon Carse was found playing 303 bets on various cricket matches between 2017 and 2019. Importantly, none of these bets involved matches in which he was a participant. Consequently, Carse has been rendered ineligible for selection in any cricketing activities until August 28.
Acknowledging his actions, Carse stated, “Whilst these bets were several years ago, that is no excuse, and I take full responsibility for my actions. I thank the ECB, Durham, and the Professional Cricketers’ Association for their support during this challenging time. I am committed to working hard over the next 12 weeks to repay that support on the field when I return to play.”
Born in South Africa, Carse has represented England in 14 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals since making his international debut in July 2021.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) issued a statement highlighting its strict stance against corruption in cricket and supporting the Cricket Regulator’s decision in Carse’s case.
The ECB emphasized, “We take these matters extremely seriously and do not condone any anti-corruption breach in cricket. We support the Cricket Regulator’s decision and their consideration of the mitigating factors in Brydon’s case. He has cooperated and shown remorse for his actions. We are satisfied that Brydon has grown in the five years since this breach and demonstrated a greater understanding of his responsibilities. We hope his case will serve as an educational example for other cricketers.”
