Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has shared new personal details about his family. He revealed that his partner, Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis, is half-Indian.
Musk made these revelations during an appearance on the “WTF is?” podcast, hosted by Zerodha founder Nikhil Kamath. During the conversation, Musk also disclosed a meaningful tribute within his family. He stated that one of his sons with Zilis carries the middle name “Sekhar.”
Musk explained that this name honours the Indian-American physicist and Nobel laureate, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar. “I’m not sure if you know this, but my partner Shivon is half-Indian,” Musk told the host. “One of my sons is with her; his middle name is Sekhar after Chandrasekhar.”
Musk briefly discussed Zilis’s personal history when asked about her upbringing. He noted that she grew up in Canada after being given up for adoption as a baby. “I think her father was like an exchange student at the university or something like that… I’m not sure the exact details,” Musk added regarding her Indian heritage.
Zilis joined Musk’s neurotechnology company, Neuralink, in 2017. She currently serves as the Director of Operations and Special Projects. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Philosophy from Yale University.

Shivon Zilis and Elon Musk have four children together: twins Strider and Azure, a daughter named Arcadia, and a son named Seldon Lycurgus. Earlier this year, Zilis publicly announced the birth of their son, Seldon Lycurgus, in a post on the social media platform X. She made the announcement to coincide with their daughter Arcadia’s birthday.
Musk responded to her post with a heart emoji. This announcement followed news that another woman, conservative influencer Ashley St Clair, also recently had a child with Musk. During the same podcast episode, Musk also commented on broader immigration trends. He stated that America has “been an immense beneficiary of talent from India, but that seems to be changing now.”
His observation comes amid increasing visa restrictions and policy changes in the United States. These developments are affecting the prospects of thousands of Indian professionals and students.
